Dr. McClellan earned a bachelor's degree from Berea College in 1997, and a master's, educational specialist's, and doctoral (Ph.D.) degrees in Counseling Psychology from the University of Kentucky in 2002, 2010, and 2014, respectively. He has been a licensed to practice psychology independently in Kentucky since 2016.
During his graduate training, Dr. McClellan completed clinical rotations in community mental health; university counseling; and two, year-long clinical experiences in inpatient psychiatric hospitals where he developed a passion for working with individuals with severe mental illness.
Dr. McClellan served in an academic role for a combined 15 years before shifting over to full-time private practice. As an educator, he worked as a teaching assistant, lecturer, assistant professor, and then a tenured associate professor and director of clinical training for APA-accredited doctoral training programs in clinical and counseling psychology for a combined 15 years. He has taught numerous graduate courses in psychological testing, psychopathology, and addiction. He has also supervised hundreds of psychological evaluations performed by his graduate students.
Dr. McClellan opened McClellan Psychological in 2017 where he provides forensic psychological services and clinical supervision. As a forensic evaluator, Dr. McClellan provides forensic psychological consultations, evaluations, and expert testimony in criminal and civil cases. As a clinical supervisor, he provides clinical supervision to graduate students who are seeking training in forensic psychology as well as contracted clinical supervision services for master's- and doctoral-level psychology professionals.
